Women Boosting Women

Women Boosting Women

Mark.Freed / 07 Jul 2017

It is well documented that women can lack confidence in the workplace, sometimes known as the ‘Confidence Gap’.  We know we can hold ourselves back from promotion opportunities and not going for the new role, because we don’t have 100% of the skills or all of the experience required.

Fear of failure also holds us back from challenging ourselves in new roles, or moving to new opportunities or companies, preferring instead to stay in our comfort zone.

In the series of ‘Women supporting Women’, these tips, techniques and challenges can ensure we do ‘boost’ each other, and provide the turbo charge to stimulate us into action!

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback
  • Develop the courage to move out of your comfort zone
  • Be prepared not to be 100% perfect
  • Identify someone in your team who you could boost.  It’s amazing what support and encouragement can do to someone’s belief in themselves and confidence
  • Say something constructive and positive to someone today, and notice their response, it should feel good!
  • Put other people’s needs before your own, and improve your emotional awareness.
  • Can you mentor another female colleague?
  • Are you aware of a female colleague who may be having a tough time, and could do with some support?
  • Does your company have a Diversity and Inclusion committee, or programme?  Can you get involved?
  • Can you inspire a female student to consider a career in Financial Services? (see E2W Sponsorship Programme)
  • Don’t give yourself a hard time over mistakes and has beens, or procrastinate over difficult tasks or situations
  • Work out where your confidence gap is.  Be truthful.  Practice your speech/ request (for a pay rise) with a friend (known as the Exposure Technique)

You can choose to be more confident.

‘Boost yourself’ and you’ll turbo charge others around you!
