Sharing your frustrations…

Sharing your frustrations…

Mark.Freed / 07 Aug 2019

At E2W, we get many women contacting us each week asking for help and support, summing up their feelings and frustrations. They feel they can talk to us as a trusted friend and support network. I received a note this week which seemed to talk for many members of our community...

“Dear Mark,

I keep coming back to your profile on LinkedIn, predominantly, because after 25 years in the City I find it less welcoming as a women than ever...

The bias towards hiring men is not reducing and the ‘boys network’ is growing stronger. I did think the latter would reduce as the older generation were replaced with mine, I couldn’t have been more wrong; I think my generation is far worse. I’m currently looking for a new contract in the City because 10 years ago I was driven out of my senior permanent role that I loved, by a few men who thought I should be at home with my children, and subsequently contracted ever since.

I perform a role which is dominated by men and I have had some awful experiences. I am no shrinking violet, so I do wonder what it’s like for others who maybe aren’t as equipped to deal with it? Although that said, I am reaching the end of my tolerance with it all and while companies may be hiring more senior women, I see it causing unrest among men especially in lower ranks, which can only be bad news for the future..."

I am meeting 'Jane' next week and look forwarded to exploring how we can help and support her to continue her career. 'Jane' will be one the 800 women E2W support and help to progress, continue or return to their careers this year.

If you share similar frustrations, and would like to join our community to be supported by our services and fantastic network, please contact Katie
