The Young Women's Trust

In April 2019 we were introduced to the Young Women’s Trust and were amazed at the work they do to help Young Women who are struggling to live on low or no pay, to get into work that is right for them. The Young Women’s Trust offers these women support similar to that we offer you, our members. The Young Women's Trust offers free coaching and personalised advice on job applications, conducts research, runs campaigns and works with young women to build confidence and advocate for fair financial futures.

Hi there,

You don’t know me, but I want to share my story with you.

Due to Coronavirus I lost my job.

I was supposed to start a new, different job this month but I lost that too due to staff cuts.

I had to max out my credit card and couldn’t pay most of my bills.

Being a person that was used to working three jobs, lockdown has had a negative impact not only on my finances but also on my mental health.

Being away from family and friends and having lots of time to myself in a house full of strangers and lots of worries about the future hasn't been easy.

Then I heard I was getting some money from the Young Women’s Trust Emergency Fund.

I used the amount to help cover that month’s rent.

I felt absolutely relieved when I found out. It was heartwarming to hear that people who didn't personally know me were willing to help.

Because I’d been given money through the Emergency Fund, Young Women’s Trust asked if I wanted to use their coaching service.

The service also offers useful CV support via email. They give you advice on how to build a proper CV.

After first being contacted via email, my coach and I set up a time for a phone session and started this journey. There was no awkwardness at all, just two people having a conversation on life and how to overcome its obstacles.

My coach, Yasmin, has been such a delight to talk to. Having someone on the other side of the phone that actually listens to your story and helps you to come up with small baby steps to bring change into your life is a precious opportunity.

I felt acknowledged.

Thank you for reading, and for everything you've done to support young women like me.
