Morgan Stanley has become the first major banking firm to promote a woman to its most senior job in London, naming Clare Woodman — most recently its chief operating officer in the UK capital — as head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The US investment house named Woodman — a key figure in the bank's preparations for the implications of Brexit on its London operations — as head of Emea on May 1, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News.
She replaces Rob Rooney, who has headed up Morgan Stanley's London operation since 2016. He will move to New York as head of technology, overseeing "critical technology issues including artificial intelligence, automation, cybersecurity and digital", CEO James Gorman wrote in the memo.
