E2W and Men for Inclusion are proud to sponsor and support, City Gateway, a charity that exists to give everyone the equal chance to change the future.

About City Gateway

Based in Tower Hamlets, City Gateway is a charity that supports young people from some of London's most disadvantaged communities to reach their full potential. The organization focuses on individuals aged 16 to 24 who are currently not in education, employment and training (NEET) and aims to equip them with the skills, qualifications, and mindset required to achieve sustainable employment, such as apprenticeships and other job opportunities. In 2021-22, City Gateway helped 76% of its young people to achieve positive and sustainable EET outcomes, surpassing the sector benchmark of 24%.

Doubling the holiday spirit with Big Give Christmas Challenge 2023

As the holiday season approaches, there’s a special tradition that’s as heartwarming as the glow of Christmas lights – the Big Give Christmas Challenge. City Gateway is delighted to be part of this fundraising campaign again this year, running from Tuesday 28th November to Tuesday 5th December.

This year we’re taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge to raise funds to help disadvantaged young people with one-to-one coaching support.

Donations open 12:00 PM, 28 November 2022 to 12:00 PM, 5 December 2022

Running for 8 days from the 28th November, every donation made during this time will be doubled, whilst match funds last. That’s one donation, twice the impact.

Here’s how you could make a difference!

The magic of doubling your impact

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is not your ordinary charitable event. It has the added festive sparkle of seeing every pound donated, doubled. Yes, you heard that right, every single donation made during this eight-day period is matched, leading to an even larger impact we’re able to have on the lives of young people.

Rewriting the story for disadvantaged young people

Dreams and Ambitions: £14,000 for 250 Young People

We are aiming to raise £14,000 through this year’s campaign to help us support the 250 young people needing support from City Gateway this year. These young people are brimming with potential, but they need a helping hand to overcome the challenges and barriers they have faced in their young lives. City Gateway not only gives them the skills and qualifications they need to achieve their ambitions, we also provide them with one-to-one coaching and support, helping them reach their true potential.

What our learners say

Participating in the programme enabled me to build more confidence in my abilities. The one-to-one sessions with my City Gateway coach made my experience very personal – I really benefited from the coaching.

Support is always available, whether it’s a work or personal matter. The coaches have given me a lot of my confidence back and helped me with all my problems.

Situation

London’s youth unemployment rate currently stands at 14.2% (Trust for London 2023), over three times higher than the national rate of 3.9% (ONS 2023). Young people who have faced socio-economic exclusion face significant barriers to education and quality employment and are 50% more likely to be NEET compared with peers who have achieved identical qualifications (Impetus 2019). At City Gateway, we provide support for them to achieve their ambitions and become the author of their own stories.

Solution

Because we know qualifications are only half the story, we will provide wrap-around one-to-one coaching to 250 young people on our national benchmark-beating education and training programme. Coaching offers a safe, supportive space for young people to talk through issues in their personal lives, overcome barriers, develop core personal capabilities like confidence, resilience and self-awareness and provides tailored progression and job search support – all to help learners secure employment.

What will your donation do?

£20 could provide a 30-minute coaching session to a young person, offering advice and guidance, helping them settle in well and increase their chances of completing their course.

£60 could empower a young person to participate in an intensive interview workshop, opening doors to apprenticeships or jobs that secure their future.

£100 could support the coaching team in organising a group coaching session with corporate partners, benefiting 6-10 learners in each session.

Take action, double the joy!

This festive season, please make a donation and make a real difference in the lives of young people. Your donation isn’t just a financial contribution; it can truly change their future prospects. And don’t forget your donation will be worth double – what a gift to give.

Let’s make this holiday season one of giving, hope, and opportunity. Thank you for your support!
