Career Conversations: Why are women too modest?

There has been a common theme this week during  the Developing Leaders career conversation and my 1:1 career coaching - women are too modest about how good we are!  We play down our achievements, our strengths, and skills. We feel uncomfortable acknowledging our experience and promoting ourselves.  At crucial times when we need to promote and position ourselves to a new role, we tend to under sell our true skills and potential.

When you are preparing for an interview for a new role or promotion, take time to reflect on your skills, abilities and strengths.  We are much better than we believe we are.  Visualise yourself working in the new role and understand what you will contribute to the position.  Believing in yourself will boost your confidence, self-belief, improve your presence and enhance your chances of success.
