The Role

The key purpose of this role is to lead the Credit Risk and Collections policies agenda for the whole Group in addition to support the Group Head of Credit Risk Strategy with the on-going development of lending and collections strategy across all product streams, as well as drive qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Credit Risk portfolio with a view to improve the book and ensure the Bank operates within Risk Appetite.

The role is based in Wolverhampton, however, will involve travel to the Kent office and occasional travel to subsidiaries based in the South East of England.

Key Responsibilities

•    Generate insights into Risk leadership relating to trends and movements observed in the Credit portfolios.
•    Own the policy criteria framework and ensure appropriate review, cascade and utilization by the operational teams.
•    Support the upscaling of the Credit Risk unit to help us deliver state of the art credit risk management across the Group.
•    Drive Credit work streams in the delivery of cross functional business projects including new product initiatives and the launch of policy / criteria changes.
•    Work closely with the product development team on new criteria innovation, providing Risk expertise and analytical support for expected future performance.   
•    Maintain and update the various Group policies ensuring the appropriate governance steps are taken for approval.
•    Ensure market benchmarking is in place to provide timely views and analysis on areas of potential enhancement or change.
•    Monitor and administer the Bank’s underwriting and collections related mandates while supporting the on-going development and assessment of mandated underwriters within the business.
•    Where required, work closely with the Group Credit Assurance team in the compilation and delivery against the quarterly assurance reviews; Ensure all identified issues are managed effectively with Underwriting, Servicing & Collections.
•    Monitor the effective review of accounts in arrears with core trends reflected in the design of lending and debt management policies.
•    Monitor the application of end-to-end collections reviews within the Bank.
•    Participate in any ad hoc or strategic project work as and when required.
•    Ensure understanding and full compliance with the organisation’s Risk Management Framework and Policies ensuring the customer is at the heart of everything we do.
•    Ensure full compliance with the Bank’s Data Governance Policies by treating data as an important corporate asset which must be protected and managed.
•    Maintain the company’s compliance standards and ensure timely completion of all mandatory on-line training modules and attestations. 
•    Line manage and coach all direct reports, including all aspects of performance management, development, conduct, sickness management, appraisals, employee administration and recruitment.

Skills and Experience

Essential requirements:
•    3+ years’ previous experience of working as a Line Manager.
•    5+ years’ previous experience with analytics, particularly within credit, risk or audit function.
•    5+ years’ previous experience in analysing data from various sources, drawing out key themes and summarising into tangible findings.
•    5 years’ previous experience of managing stakeholders at various levels. 
•    3 years’ previous experience of creating and maintaining credit and collections policies.   

Desired requirements:
•    Previous experience with MI production and analysis to extract key themes and insights.
•    Previous experience of leading and presenting discussions with stakeholders cross functionally being able to adjust the message according to the audience. 
•    Previous experience with more than one stage of the credit cycle from originations, portfolio management to collections.
•    Previous experience of project management and providing technical input.

Knowledge requirements:
•    Specialist technical knowledge of credit risk is essential.
•    Specialist knowledge of best practice recoveries and collections policies is essential.
•    Sound understanding of Underwriting in a secured/unsecured lending environment is essential.
•    Understanding of the associated regulatory framework is essential.
•    Good knowledge of UK mortgage regulations (e.g., MCOB) is essential.
•    Advanced knowledge of related FCA & PRA requirements and ongoing developments is essential.

Required Qualifications/Certifications:
•    GSCE/GCE qualifications in both Maths and English are essential.
•    CICM Credit Risk Management qualification is desirable.
